Doris Jean Gary |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Doris Jean Gary, an esteemed Texan and |
|
|
beloved matriarch, who died on November 15, 2024, at the age of |
|
|
75; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Doris Gary was born in El Campo on April 16, 1949, |
|
|
to Mary Lee Anderson and Mose Gary Jr., who raised her by loving |
|
|
example; one of four daughters, she grew up alongside her |
|
|
sisters, Linda, Delores, and Melody, and benefited from their |
|
|
companionship and the close bonds they shared; she attended E. A. |
|
|
Greer High School, where she was a valued member of the school |
|
|
band and graduated in 1968; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Doris Gary met Calvin McBride Jr. in 1969 while |
|
|
attending school, and they went on to marry and became the proud |
|
|
parents of two children, Bonnie Michelle and Kevin; Doris later |
|
|
married Robert Sykes of Austin in 1981, and they were blessed |
|
|
with three children, Katrina, Tiffaney, and Robert; in 1993, she |
|
|
moved to Fort Worth, where she worked until retiring in 2013 and |
|
|
returning to the Austin area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Doris had the pleasure of |
|
|
welcoming into her family 11 grandchildren and three |
|
|
great-grandchildren, who enriched her life immeasurably; a |
|
|
devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished spending quality |
|
|
time with her loved ones and enjoyed cooking meals for them; she |
|
|
was a woman of strong spiritual faith and was a loyal member of |
|
|
Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, where she played the organ; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Noted for her radiant and ever-present smile, |
|
|
Doris Gary was a source of light in the lives of all who knew her |
|
|
through her kindness, her optimistic outlook, and her sweet and |
|
|
generous spirit; she leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and |
|
|
dedication to family, and her memory will be forever treasured by |
|
|
her loved ones and by all who were privileged to share in her |
|
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
|
Doris Jean Gary and extend sincere condolences to the members of her |
|
|
bereaved family: to her children, Bonnie Michelle McBride Hill, and |
|
|
her husband, Christopher, Kevin Lashawn McBride, Katrina Latrice |
|
|
Sykes, Tiffaney Renee Sykes, and Robert Sykes Jr.; to her sisters, |
|
|
Delores McIntosh, and her husband, Mac, and Melody Gary-Wyatt, and |
|
|
her husband, Jim; to her grandchildren, Sequoia, Montenique, Kevin, |
|
|
Elijah, Isaiah, Nina, Victoria, Daniah, Daniel, Jayden, and Kimora; |
|
|
to her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Zion, and Zaylana; to her |
|
|
stepson, Kevin Anthony Walker; and to her many other loving extended |
|
|
relatives; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
|
memory of Doris Jean Gary. |
