Molly Smith |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Molly Essary Smith, an esteemed Texan and a friend |
|
|
to many, passed away on July 8, 2025, at the age of 68; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Dawson and Mary Essary, the former |
|
|
Molly Essary was born on January 18, 1957, in Houston; she grew up |
|
|
sharing a close relationship with her three older sisters, Diana, |
|
|
Deborah, and Candy, and the siblings were collectively known as |
|
|
the "Essary Sisters" or the "YaYas"; Mrs. Smith graduated from |
|
|
Galena Park High School and continued her education at San |
|
|
Jacinto College, where she served on the marching drill team; she |
|
|
went on to study philosophy at Texas A&M University on a Miss |
|
|
Texas scholarship, and she received a degree from the University |
|
|
of Houston-Clear Lake; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Passionate about helping at-risk youth, |
|
|
Mrs. Smith began her first term as a justice of the peace in 1988, |
|
|
and she went on to serve her fellow citizens for two decades; |
|
|
after retiring in 2008, she began a second career as a funeral |
|
|
director and provided comfort and support to grieving families; |
|
|
active in her community, she gave generously of her time and |
|
|
talents to a number of worthy groups, including the Pasadena and |
|
|
Deer Park Chambers of Commerce, the Rotary Club, Camp H-Town, and |
|
|
the San Jacinto College Foundation board; in her leisure time, |
|
|
she enjoyed performing at the Hometown Opry and she loved to |
|
|
travel, visiting all seven continents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1979, Mrs. Smith married Jimmie Maness, and |
|
|
the couple became the proud parents of three children, Katy, |
|
|
Candace, and Ryan; following the end of their relationship, |
|
|
Mrs. Smith found love again with Carroll Smith, whom she wed in |
|
|
2014, and they created a blended family that included her |
|
|
stepchildren, W. C. and Brandon; a doting grandmother, she |
|
|
treasured spending time with her grandchildren, Emily, Easton, |
|
|
and Logan, and step-grandchildren, Ashley, Lauren, Charlotte, |
|
|
Ethan, and Julia; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although Molly Smith's death has brought great |
|
|
sorrow to those who loved her, her life was an inspiring example |
|
|
of the good that one person can accomplish; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
|
of Molly Essary Smith and extend sincere condolences to all who |
|
|
mourn her passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Molly Smith. |
