| WHEREAS, Residents of Beeville lost an admired civic | ||
| leader with the passing of former mayor John Wilbur | ||
| Galloway Sr. on July 21, 2025, at the age of 85; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Charles Thomas Galloway and Mary Jane | ||
| Galloway, John Galloway was born in Beeville on July 29, 1939; | ||
| while still a student at A. C. Jones High School, he became | ||
| deeply involved in community affairs; in 1960, he joined the | ||
| mortuary founded by his grandfather, driving ambulances and | ||
| assisting with memorial services; he ably managed Galloway & Sons | ||
| Funeral Home from 1974 until his retirement in 2025; over the | ||
| course of his long and rewarding career, he was a generous mentor | ||
| to a number of younger professionals; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Galloway served as mayor of Beeville during | ||
| the 1970s and '80s; his noteworthy decade-long tenure brought | ||
| myriad infrastructure improvements, including street paving, | ||
| sewage lines, and construction of the fire station, city hall, | ||
| and water treatment plant; in addition, he oversaw completion of | ||
| the airport and a 200-acre park, and his guidance as president of | ||
| the Western Week Association was instrumental in the group | ||
| funding the development of the Bee County Coliseum and adjacent | ||
| buildings; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Galloway gave freely of his | ||
| time and talents to a host of local groups and civic | ||
| organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, Bee County Red Cross, | ||
| Boy Scouts of America, Beeville Economic Development | ||
| Corporation, and Knights of Columbus, and Saint Joseph Catholic | ||
| Church; in addition, he was appointed by two governors to the | ||
| Nueces River Authority; he coached Little League for many years, | ||
| benefiting youth in Bee and Live Oak Counties, and he enjoyed | ||
| taking his players to Houston Astros games and treating them to | ||
| hot dogs and sodas; he also founded Bids for Kids to raise funds | ||
| for FFA and 4-H projects; for more than a half century, he awarded | ||
| the champion belt buckles at the Bee County Junior Livestock Show | ||
| and Live Oak County Fair; among numerous impactful endeavors, he | ||
| launched an appreciation dinner to honor first responders; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devoted family man and dedicated public | ||
| servant, John Galloway will be deeply missed, but those who were | ||
| privileged to share in the richness of his life will forever | ||
| treasure their memories of his kindness, sense of humor, and deep | ||
| commitment to his community; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life | ||
| of John Wilbur Galloway Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the | ||
| members of his family: to his wife, Elizabeth Ann Galloway; to | ||
| his children, John Wilbur "Wil" Galloway Jr. and his wife, Terri, | ||
| Charles Andrew "Andy" Galloway and his wife, Nicole, and Mary | ||
| Beth Atzenhoffer and her husband, Steve; to his seven | ||
| grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and to his other | ||
| relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
| this day, it do so in memory of John Galloway. | ||
