| WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close on | ||
| July 4, 2025, with the passing of John Henry Moon Jr. of Pasadena | ||
| at the age of 65; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Houston on September 16, 1959, John Moon | ||
| Jr. was the son of John and Rose Moon; he grew up in Pasadena and | ||
| graduated from Sam Rayburn High School before enrolling at | ||
| San Jacinto College; he received his bachelor's degree from | ||
| Southern Methodist University and his master's degree from the | ||
| University of Houston-Clear Lake; following in his father's | ||
| footsteps, he worked as a certified public accountant, enjoying a | ||
| career in banking and investments that spanned more than 30 | ||
| years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A longtime advocate for San Jacinto College, | ||
| Mr. Moon played a pivotal role in the passage of two major bond | ||
| referenda that secured $720 million in funding to benefit the | ||
| school's three campuses and 30,000 students, and he championed | ||
| workforce training programs that helped lead to employment | ||
| opportunities for graduates; his efforts to that end included | ||
| supporting the development of the college's Maritime Campus, the | ||
| creation of the LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, | ||
| and Technology, and the recent launch of a pilot program for | ||
| cosmetology students in collaboration with the Texas Department | ||
| of Licensing and Regulation; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Moon also contributed generously to the | ||
| Promise @ San Jac Scholarship; he loved attending graduation | ||
| ceremonies to see the culmination of students' hard work, and he | ||
| made frequent trips to Austin and Washington, D.C., to promote | ||
| the cause of higher education; back at home, Mr. Moon sought | ||
| opportunities to serve the Pasadena community and volunteered | ||
| his time with such organizations as the Pasadena Chamber of | ||
| Commerce, the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, and the American | ||
| Heart Association; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Moon was preceded in death by his first wife, | ||
| Lori Moon, and his second wife, Sheressa Moon; he was fortunate | ||
| enough to find love again with Beverly Moon, and his treasured | ||
| family also included his two sons, John and Donovan, and his two | ||
| grandchildren, John and Lori; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Although John Moon will be deeply missed, he has | ||
| left his loved ones with a wealth of memories that they will | ||
| forever cherish; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
| John Henry Moon Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of | ||
| his family: to his mother, Rose Moon; to his wife, Beverly Moon; to | ||
| his sons, John H. Moon III and his wife, Vennessa, and Donovan Moon | ||
| and his wife, Julia; to his grandchildren, John H. Moon IV and Lori | ||
| Moon; to his brother, Randy Moon, and his wife, Kim; and to his other | ||
| relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
| this day, it do so in memory of John Moon. | ||
