| WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Richard J. Vane were | ||
| deeply saddened by his passing on June 30, 2025, at the age of 86; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, Born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 7, 1939, Dick | ||
| Vane demonstrated artistic ability in childhood and went on to | ||
| earn a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of | ||
| Michigan; he began his career in Houston in 1961, and while | ||
| serving as an advisor to Loeb AZA, he met his future wife, Sue | ||
| Rosenbloom; they married in 1964 and became the proud parents of | ||
| two children, Mark and Jennifer; after launching his own practice | ||
| specializing in commercial projects, Mr. Vane cofounded Osborn & | ||
| Vane Architects in 1979; the firm continues to thrive today; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Vane taught Sunday school at Temple Emanu El, | ||
| where he was also active in the Brotherhood; in retirement, he | ||
| volunteered with Jewish Family Service, paying visits to the | ||
| homebound; he and his wife were blessed with five grandchildren, | ||
| and they often traveled to Austin to visit them, sharing | ||
| everything from birthdays and extracurricular events to random | ||
| weekends; an early riser, he greeted his grandchildren as soon as | ||
| they awoke, ready to read books, watch their TV shows, and do art | ||
| projects; for many years, he wrote them weekly letters; the Vanes | ||
| ultimately moved to Austin in 2022 to be closer to their family; | ||
| Mr. Vane was a loyal fan of the University of Michigan | ||
| Wolverines, and he loved watching old movies and musicals, going | ||
| to the theater, reading history and other nonfiction, listening | ||
| to jazz, and nurturing his many houseplants; he was preceded in | ||
| death by his mother, Sylvia Polk Strauss, beloved stepfather, | ||
| Simon Strauss, brother, Dean, and stepbrother, Gary; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While the death of Dick Vane brings immeasurable | ||
| sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that | ||
| will long be cherished by all those who held him dear; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of Richard J. Vane and extend sincere condolences to the members | ||
| of his family: to his wife, Sue Vane; to his children, Mark Vane | ||
| and his wife, Sharyn, and Jennifer Melrose and her husband, Evan; | ||
| to his grandchildren, Eddie and Sam Vane and Madison, Parker, and | ||
| Noah Melrose; to his stepsisters, Davida Bilgrad and Nadine | ||
| Strauss; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
| this day, it do so in memory of Dick Vane. | ||
