Robert Childress |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |
|
|
passing of Robert Louie Childress of Longview on June 15, 2025, |
|
|
at the age of 89; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Lillie Pearl Newsome and William |
|
|
S. Childress, Robert Childress was born in Gilmer on March 20, |
|
|
1936; he grew up in the Ore City area with the companionship of |
|
|
seven siblings, Wallace, Donald, Billy Wayne, Priscilla, |
|
|
Mildred, Ruth, and Mary Frances, and he worked in his father's |
|
|
automotive garage as a youth; answering his nation's call to |
|
|
duty, he joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served as a mechanic for |
|
|
two years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On October 20, 1957, Mr. Childress wed the love of |
|
|
his life, the former Sue Smith, and the couple went on to share a |
|
|
rewarding marriage that spanned nearly 68 years; he took great |
|
|
pride in their two children, Keith and Elaine, and with the |
|
|
passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his treasured family |
|
|
grow to include five grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Childress moved to Longview with his wife in |
|
|
1961, working as an assistant to a ceiling contractor before |
|
|
going on to cofound East Texas Acoustical, a ceiling and floor |
|
|
installation company that he successfully operated for 56 years; |
|
|
a man of strong faith, he was a valued member of Woodland Hills |
|
|
Baptist Church for three decades, and he played an instrumental |
|
|
role in the congregation's building projects; in his leisure |
|
|
hours, he enjoyed working on automobiles and motorcycles; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A compassionate and caring man, Robert Childress |
|
|
is deeply missed, and those who held him dear will forever |
|
|
remember the warmth and kindness he brought into their lives; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
|
of Robert Louie Childress and extend sincere condolences to the |
|
|
members of his family: to his wife, Sue Childress; to his |
|
|
children, Keith Childress and his wife, Patty, and Elaine |
|
|
Childress Day and her husband, Tim; to his grandchildren, Sam, |
|
|
Diana, Ally, Jack, and Emme; and to his other relatives and |
|
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Robert Childress. |
