| WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the | ||
| passing of Dorothy J. Haggard of Hooks on June 26, 2025, at the | ||
| age of 91; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The former Dorothy Murphy was born in Emmet, | ||
| Arkansas, on August 19, 1933, and her family included her parents | ||
| and stepparents, Ben and Lillian Murphy and Annie and Curtis | ||
| Daugherty, as well as five siblings, Jimmy Dale, Willard, Benny, | ||
| Johnny, and Cheryl; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, she shared 64 happy | ||
| years of marriage with her husband, John E. Haggard, before his | ||
| passing in 2016; she took great pride in her children, Debbie and | ||
| Randy, and she was preceded in death by an infant son, the late | ||
| John Michael Haggard; with the passage of time, she had the | ||
| pleasure of welcoming into her family a grandson, Johnathan; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Haggard lost her eyesight in 1997, but | ||
| despite the challenges she faced, she remained steadfast in her | ||
| faith, and she was a valued member of First Assembly of God in | ||
| Hooks; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Dorothy | ||
| Haggard will remember the way she touched their lives with her | ||
| quick wit and delightful sense of humor, and she will forever | ||
| hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of Dorothy J. Haggard and extend heartfelt sympathy to the | ||
| members of her family: to her daughter, Debbie MacLure, and her | ||
| husband, Ron; to her son, Randy Haggard; to her grandson, | ||
| Johnathan Haggard, and his wife, Autumn; to her brothers, Benny | ||
| Murphy and his wife, Dee, and Johnny Murphy and his wife, Frieda; | ||
| to her sister, Cheryl Underwood; and to her other relatives and | ||
| many friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
| this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy Haggard. | ||
