| WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew | ||
| to a close with the passing of Calvin Eugene Grant of Texarkana on | ||
| June 29, 2025, at the age of 81; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The son of Claudina and Roy Grant, Calvin Grant | ||
| was born in Key West, Florida, on October 9, 1943, and he grew up | ||
| with the companionship of a sister, Georgina; answering his | ||
| nation's call to duty, he served in the U.S. Navy for nearly three | ||
| decades before retiring at the rank of chief petty officer; he | ||
| went on to enjoy a rewarding civilian career at Naval Station | ||
| Treasure Island in San Francisco, California; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Grant benefited from | ||
| the love and support of his wife of 28 years, Geraldine; he took | ||
| great pride in his four children, Robinne, Calvin, Jeffrey, and | ||
| Michael, and he was a caring stepfather to his wife's two | ||
| children, Cynthia and Leonard; with the passage of time, he had | ||
| the pleasure of welcoming into his family four grandchildren; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mr. Grant retired to Texarkana in 1996, and he | ||
| became an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church; he was | ||
| ordained as a deacon in 2004, and he further served the church as | ||
| a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, maintenance | ||
| director, and building renovation advisor; in February 2024, he | ||
| joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and | ||
| his country, Calvin Grant earned the lasting respect and | ||
| admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of Calvin Eugene Grant and extend heartfelt sympathy to the | ||
| members of his family: to his wife, Geraldine Hawkins-Grant; to | ||
| his daughter, Robinne Grant; to his sons, Calvin Grant Jr., | ||
| Jeffrey Grant and his wife, Traci, and Michael Grant; to his | ||
| stepdaughter, Cynthia Stephens; to his stepson, Leonard Hawkins, | ||
| and his husband, Jerald; to his grandchildren; and to his other | ||
| relatives and many friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns | ||
| this day, it do so in memory of Calvin Grant. | ||
