Roger Waggoner |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of Roger Carl Waggoner of Tyler on January 10, 2025, at |
|
|
the age of 95; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Roger Waggoner was born in St. Louis, Missouri, |
|
|
on January 2, 1930, to Eustace and Dell Waggoner; he grew up in |
|
|
Stuttgart, Arkansas, with a brother, Alfred, and was an Eagle |
|
|
Scout, an all-state football player, and valedictorian of his |
|
|
high school senior class; a graduate of Ouachita Baptist |
|
|
University, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the |
|
|
U.S. Army and served in Korea as a platoon leader and infantry |
|
|
company commander; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1955, Mr. Waggoner embarked on a 35-year |
|
|
career with Sears Roebuck and Co., first working in Little Rock |
|
|
before spending three decades at the company's headquarters in |
|
|
Chicago; his buying assignments took him around the world, and he |
|
|
also held positions in merchandising, marketing, and senior |
|
|
management; civically engaged, he was a member of the Board of |
|
|
Police and Fire Commissioners in Wheaton, Illinois, and he served |
|
|
with the National Council of the Housing Industry and the |
|
|
National Association of Home Builders; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Waggoner was blessed with the love and support |
|
|
of his wife, Sue, with whom he shared 72 years, and he took great |
|
|
pride in their children, Alice and Keith, and in their four |
|
|
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; in retirement, Mr. and |
|
|
Mrs. Waggoner lived in Emerald Bay; they enjoyed playing golf |
|
|
together, and during their travels, they visited all 50 states and |
|
|
65 countries; above all, Mr. Waggoner was committed to serving |
|
|
others; he taught Bible and Sunday school classes at Emerald Bay |
|
|
Community Church, and he belonged to the East Texas chapter of the |
|
|
Service Corps of Retired Executives Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Although Roger Waggoner is deeply missed, |
|
|
memories of his devotion to his loved ones and his commitment to |
|
|
faith and service will forever be treasured by those he has left |
|
|
behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
|
|
of Roger Carl Waggoner and extend heartfelt condolences to the |
|
|
members of his family: to his wife, Anna Sue Waggoner; to his |
|
|
children, Alice Fant and her husband, Brian, and Keith Waggoner |
|
|
and his wife, Kendall; to his grandchildren, Jonathan Fant, |
|
|
Preston Fant, Wilson Waggoner, and Anna Gray; to his |
|
|
great-grandchildren, Abigail, Betsy, Mae, Emily, Gracie, and |
|
|
James; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Roger Waggoner. |
