Robert Sprouse |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |
|
|
passing of Robert Lawrence Sprouse of Longview on May 3, 2025, at |
|
|
the age of 90; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born in Camp County on March 18, 1935, Robert |
|
|
Sprouse was the son of Eva and William Sprouse and grew up in |
|
|
various East Texas communities in the company of his five |
|
|
siblings, Betty, Bill, Richard, Roy, and Sue; he graduated from |
|
|
Pittsburg High School in 1953 and briefly attended Tyler Junior |
|
|
College before enlisting in the U.S. Army; upon his discharge, he |
|
|
enrolled at East Texas State Teachers College, where he acted in |
|
|
school productions; he met his future wife, Rosalee, while |
|
|
appearing in a play for which she served as assistant director, |
|
|
and the couple married in August 1959, beginning a union that |
|
|
spanned almost 66 years; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Sprouse embarked on a rewarding career in |
|
|
education; he served as a math teacher in public schools for |
|
|
three years, and after five years of employment as a computer |
|
|
programmer/analyst in the early 1960s, he went on to teach |
|
|
computer science at Kilgore College for nearly a quarter century; |
|
|
he also earned a master's degree and completed the coursework for |
|
|
a doctorate in the subject; and |

|
WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family, Mr. Sprouse took |
|
|
great pride in his children, David and Lisa, and he loved |
|
|
spending time with his loved ones and attending the |
|
|
extracurricular events of his grandchildren and |
|
|
great-grandchildren; a man of faith, he was a dedicated member of |
|
|
First United Methodist Church for more than a half century; in |
|
|
his leisure time, he traveled to all 50 states and more than 40 |
|
|
other countries in the company of Mrs. Sprouse, and he was an |
|
|
avid fan of the Pine Tree High School boys' basketball team as |
|
|
well as the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Celtics; |
|
|
and |

|
|
WHEREAS, While the death of Robert Sprouse brings |
|
|
immeasurable sorrow to his family and friends, he leaves behind a |
|
|
legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
|
|
of Robert Lawrence Sprouse and extend heartfelt sympathy to the |
|
|
members of his family: to his wife, Rosalee Sprouse; to his son, |
|
|
Dr. David Sprouse, and his wife, Jeri; to his daughter, Lisa |
|
|
Cauble, and her husband, Ky; to his grandchildren, Morgan |
|
|
Merriman and her husband, Michael, Taylor Sprouse and his wife, |
|
|
Brittney, Grace Cauble and her husband, Alex Cruz-Aguilar, and |
|
|
Michael Cauble and his fiancée, Dr. Winter Tate; to his |
|
|
great-grandchildren, Camden, River, and Hudson Sprouse and |
|
|
Crockett and Georgia Merriman; to his sister, Betty Dyer; and to |
|
|
his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Robert Sprouse. |
